Field Green Straight
One straight culm of fresh green bamboo, two nodes, a rattan band at the base and a dark tamarind bowl.
$10
Handmade in northern Thailand
Water pipes cut from cured bamboo by small workshops around Chiang Mai, Nan and the Thai countryside. Each culm grows its own shape, so no two pieces are the same.

The culm is cut, dried in the shade for weeks, then cleaned out through the top node. The bottom node stays closed and becomes the water chamber.
A side hole is drilled for the stem. On the plain pieces it is a short bamboo branch. On the hybrid pieces it is a 14 mm glass downstem in a rubber grommet, so any standard 14 mm bowl fits.
Pour the water out after each session and let the culm dry upright with air moving through it. Do not leave water standing overnight.
Keep it out of hard sun and away from heaters, which crack bamboo. A thin coat of food-safe oil on the outside every few months keeps the finish.
